Back to my slowly growing boutique... I have been sewing off and on all weekend and I have 4 dresses and 6 headbands/hair clips to show for it. I'm thinking at this rate I just might go live by Christmas. Oh well, I will get there eventually. I've learned that nothing happens fast on the farm :)

Am I Done Yet???
I am learning that this life is full of ups and downs. Some days we get ample amounts of rain and loads of veggies come out of the field, other days it is so dry that just walking across the field leaves a dust cloud in your wake. Too many days like that and you don't exactly make a lot of money selling what few veggies survive. So to help our bank account out when those days come too frequently I decided to try my hand at making and selling little girls boutique style dresses and hair clips. Let me just start by saying I have sewing experience but this is taking a lot longer than I would like. I guess if I could just sit and sew all day I would probably have enough dresses made to open my boutique but I have a husband who needs my help around the farm and 3 children who can't quite fend for themselves yet, although I'm close on the 8 year old. Oh and did I mention that I homeschool, too? Yea and the new year starts in a couple weeks. Am I at all prepared for this year? Maybe a little.

Organized (well sorta) Chaos
Life in our house can be kind of crazy. I have 3 children and along with my husband, own/operate a small all natural family farm. My days are NEVER boring. Some days I kinda miss boring...
I get up with the chickens, literally. We have several roosters who coincidentally don't just crow in the mornings...who knew? Although it's usually not the roosters waking me up but the 9 month old alarm clock sleeping in the crib next to my bed. If only I could find her snooze button. Although I would also have to find the snooze button for my 5 year old son who apparently doesn't want to miss one minute of the day. He's usually up just after the sun. Then there is my 8 year old daughter who, bless her sweet self, tries unsuccessfully to sleep in. I mean who can sleep in this house?
Most days look a lot like chaos to most people but it's really somewhat organized chaos. The demanding 9 month old gets breakfast first. What's that saying about the squeaky wheel getting the grease? She's my squeaky wheel :) Then its breakfast for everyone else and the fun begins. The kids play while the hubby and myself get the house somewhat recognizable before we head outside to start work. My work outside revolves around nap times. Right now the baby still takes nice long naps every day so I can manage to get a lot done before having to come back inside.
On any given day we will have several hundred chickens somewhere on the property.
That's a lot of poultry.
They have to be fed and watered and that can take awhile. Then, during the spring and summer months we have vegetables that need tending to. We grow everything organically which means way more work. Not a lot of people know just how much work goes into growing the food they eat.
After all of the animals are taken care of and the plants have been tended to it's time to tackle the ever growing, no end in sight, mile long to do list. Right now the to do list includes finishing my breeder pen for my french black copper maran chickens and putting a roof on the hog shelter. We have been working on these two projects most of the summer. There always seems to be more that needs doing than we have time to do it.
All of this is before lunch.
